Challenge
The owners of a prominent Dallas architectural design firm were
bothered by how slowly and inaccurately their accounting staff was
performing their jobs. Even with three full time staff, they were four
months behind on their monthly closings and preparation of the firm’s
financial statements.
The frustration centered on the owners’
inability to “fix” the problem themselves (they were excellent at
design – accounting was not their thing). And whenever they complained,
their staff always responded with how overworked they were and how they
needed another full time person in the accounting department.
Solution
PriceKubecka was called in to ascertain the problem and design new
accounting processes to streamline the department. After interviewing
the staff, we documented all of their manual processes and identified
three major weaknesses in how they performed their day-to-day functions.
Within
two weeks we had their financial statements up to date and had
implemented the new procedures to automate the department. Our software
team then wrote customized crystal reports which gave management up to
the minute information at a click of the button (no more waiting for
excel spreadsheets to be prepared by hand).
When our work was
complete, the accounting department was downsized from three to two,
and they were able to close the month within 10 calendar days.
