Haley Lehr – Southern Methodist University
My name is Haley Lehr. Coming into my internship at PriceKubecka, I honestly had no idea what to expect. I knew, however, from the moment I met Jen and Brian at the SMU Career Fair that I liked this firm. I felt that the biggest difference between PK and other firms is the genuine enthusiasm and passion for the business. They stood out to me in the best way and when I got my internship offer, I was so excited.
This excitement didn’t fade as I walked into the office for my first day. Our first few days of training were filled with so much learning and fun. Brian Price, the Founding Partner, trained the interns, which was probably one of my favorite experiences at PK. Where else are you going to get training directly from a Partner? I learned more in those 4 days than I had in my last 2 semesters of college. Through training with Brian, he was able to create a healthy working and learning environment where no one was afraid to ask questions or get things wrong.
I think the thing that sets the PK Internship apart from others is the wide variety of experience that you get as an intern. In my wildest dreams I would have never expected to be given real clients to begin working on in my first week. As an intern, I was given the confidence and trust to do the work myself. Since my first week, I have touched so many different clients and so many different projects. I have been on site at clients for regular audits and 401k audits. I have done compilations, had contact directly with clients, and I have been given the unique opportunity to see how new business is created. My favorite part about my audit internship is that I come into work never knowing what I’m going to work on. I could work on one client that day, or work on five clients in the same day.
As my internship is coming to an end, I’ve had time to reflect on this journey with PK. I honestly think that the people make the biggest difference, and PK has the best people. It’s one thing to meet and chat with someone, but working alongside someone is different. The environment at PK is so open and welcoming, which fosters the willingness to ask questions and ask for help. Not only that, but the people at PK are so much fun, which makes the job really fun and exciting. I could not have asked for a better first internship experience with such a unique firm.
